DIY Bathtub Tray
Follow this simple tutorial to build your own DIY bathtub tray! The bathtub tray can easily be customized by choosing a different stain color and getting different handles for the sides of the tray. This project is also a great gift idea for friends and family at holidays, or on birthdays!
DIFFICULTY: EASY
SUPPLIES:
- (12) 1" screws
- Sponge tip paintbrush
- Small can of Minwax stain (Color of your choice, I used dark walnut)
- White cloth for stain excess removal
- Measuring tape
- Pencil
- (2) coins (penny, dime, etc...)
- Saw (can use a miter/chop/skill saw or ask store to cut boards for you when you buy them)
- Drill (with Phillips bit and 1/8 wood bit)
- (1) 1"x4"x12' untreated board (3 pieces 32" - length can be adjusted to fit your tub)
- (1) furring strip 1"x2"x8' (2 pieces 10.5" long)
- (2) small drawer pulls (your choice/style - needs to be 3.5" long or less)
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Gather supplies.
- Mark and measure boards to the specified lengths above using pencil and measuring tape. Lengths of boards can be adjusted to your tub if needed.
- Using sponge tipped paintbrush, apply Minwax stain to all boards following instructions on the can of stain.
- Wipe excess stain off using white cloth and allow to dry.
- Place furring strip boards 14.5" apart from each other on your workspace.
- Space the 3 cut 1"x4" boards on top of furring strips using the 2 coins to space each board.
- Using drill, place 4 screws in each board attaching the 1"x4" to the furring strip.
- Place drawer pulls on either end of the middle board and mark holes with the pencil.
- Pre drill screw holes for each drawer pull using 1/8 bit.
- Using drill, screw drawer pulls in place.
Voila!YAY! You now have another reason to take a long, relaxing bath!I usually put my coffee cup, book/ipad and candle on my tray. Also a great, low cost gift idea for friends and family!
